What is Living Room Choir ANEW?
Living Room Choir ANEW is a practice of joy, stress-reduction, and meaningful connection through music. Using simple, lush harmonies and oral tradition teaching, leaders Kaitie Ty Warren (she/they) and Sara Stutz (she/her) build songs layer by layer to include the voices of all singers present. The result is a vibrant vocal tapestry and restorative, collective musical experience: rich for the soul as well as the ears. No musical experience necessary for this paperless singing practice. Just bring your voice, open heart and curious mind. LRC ANEW is part of the international Ubuntu Choirs Network, which believes it’s everybody’s birthright to sing.

What is Community Singing?
Community Singing is a growing movement of singers, songleaders and songwriters who sing together for joy and healing. Songs are taught in the oral tradition in a simple call-and-echo style, and include chants, rounds, unison, harmony, and songs with multiple layers. The lyrics are affirming and hopeful, with themes of love, connection, acceptance, compassion, overcoming struggle, authenticity, social justice, the earth, and honoring grief and pain. No singing experience is required and you may come and sing or simply relax and receive the goodness!

What does ANEW mean?
Approaching Necessary Evolution Willingly!
The 2020 events moved LRC to Zoom and overlapped with Kaitie’s parental leave. Sara, who was then the musical assistant, held the virtual “Living Zoom Choir” open throughout, with support from choir member Deborah Leeds. In 2022, LRC began meeting in person again, but things were different. The world was different, so were each of us, and so was our choir. But at the heart of things, the Living Room Choir felt and feels very much the same. Returning to it feels very much like coming home…anew. Now Kaitie and Sara co-lead and Deborah is the musical assistant, and we have re-dubbed ourselves Living Room Choir ANEW (which stands for Approaching Necessary Evolution Willingly) as of Fall 2022.
