Sarah and Karisha of Ma Muse are inspiring California-based musicians with 7 albums and counting. They are increasingly bringing their music to the community singing world, and (like us) are part of the Ubuntu Choirs Network.

Sara says: I learned this from Ma Muse (Sarah Nutting and Karisha Longaker) while up at a song gathering in Sedro-Wooley, Washington, summer 2023.  I love the group medicine of this song.  Karisha described (paraphrased) being at songwriter’s gathering earlier in the year where she wanted to create a safe and collaborative environment for all participants.  Karisha noted that when a performer is behind their microphone, a feeling of “us” and “them”  or “they have something that I don’t have” can happen for those in the audience.  Karisha wrote this song in the spirit of “usness”, collaboration, acceptance and connection.

Here is the recording from the Sedro-Wooley gathering with Karisha leading. Permission was given to the audience to record, sing and share this song. Please do not post this recording elsewhere.

Lyrics

How’s about
We work this thing together?
All hearts in in service of all learning?
How’s about
We work this thing together?
Can I count on you?
You can count on me.
Can I count on you?
You can count on me.
