Here’s a beautiful tribute to the spirit of the seasons. This song was originally composed in Mill Valley in 1969 by Glenn Turner, based on a tune called Nonesuch (listen here).
Glenn’s mother, poet Hope Athearn, wrote the lyrics to accompany the song, which was entitled The Lady’s Bransle (listen here). A Bransle is a form of french dance performed in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Our beloved Heather Houston modified the melody and added harmonies. You can hear her beautiful rendition on her album Sisters of the Moon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frFL37ZsVbs or buy it here https://heatherhouston1.bandcamp.com/track/buds-of-spring.

Original music and lyrics from The Lady’s Bransle (pronounced Brawl) by Glenn Turner and Hope Athearn. Used with permission. Arrangement and harmonies by Heather Houston.
Lyrics:
Buds Of Spring
Oh she who brings the buds of spring
And laughs among the flowers
In summer’s heat her kisses are sweet
She sings in leafy bowers
She cuts the cane and gathers the grain
Leaves of fall surround her
Her bones grow old and winter be cold
She wraps her cloak around her
Lai dai dai da dai dai dai dai dai lai dai da dai dai dai dai, Lai dai da dai Lai dai dai dai, Lai dai da dai dai dai dai.
