The Angel Wash Song was created at the Fairy Congress in 2011. Aimée Ringle and Mia (formerly also named Aimee) Kelley were asked to create a “more uplifting” melody for a ritual already in use at the Fairy Congress: the Angel Wash, with text by Saphir Lewis and Rafe Pearlman.
Aimée and Mia came up with the melody together about 20 minutes before the ritual took place. Mia added a harmony, and their version took off, and is now sung in community singing circles everywhere. Many people teach it with four parts.
Our choir uses this mostly as a way to bless our members who are celebrating a birthday or need some extra support, or simply as a way to appreciate each other at the end of a lovely session.
In this recording I’ve included three parts.
- The first is the original melody: by Aimée Ringle and Mia Kelley
- The second is Mia’s additional harmony
- The third is a harmony that often arises organically in our choir
Lyrics, by Saphir Lewis and Raphe Perlman:
I behold you beautiful one
I behold you, child of the earth and sun
Let my love wash over you
Let my love watch over you
